According to a recent study by JD Power and Associates, the top 5 most desired hotel amenities for hotel guests are: 1. Wireless Internet access (Wi-Fi) 2. Complimentary breakfast 3. Bedding and pillow options 4. Pillow-top mattresses 5. Free parking Not only is wireless Internet access the most desired amenity, but guests have come to expect Internet access wherever they stay. Years ago, Free Cable and Free HBO were the popular hotel amenities. Today it's Free Wi-Fi. As a result many properties now offer and attract guests with free wireless access. So how much does it cost to provide free Wi-Fi to guests? If your hotel does not currently have an Internet connection, expect to pay around $50 per month, or about $600 per year for a basic cable Internet connection for your entire hotel. In order to convert your cable Internet into wireless access for your guests, you will also need to purchase a commercial-grade wireless router (costs around $150 and can be found at major electronics stores). So depending on your current situation, it should only cost $150-$750 for your first year of wireless access. That is a small price to pay to make your guests happy and attract new business to your hotel. Plus you also get to use the new Wi-Fi service. Win-win! |
