Blogmas Day 13: Success, Fear, Desire

December 24th 2015

Finding your success in the Hospitality Industry

Data from STR News Inc shows that the U.S hotel industry occupancy increased 1.1% to 59.4% this year. Average daily rate for November was up 3.2% to $115.44 per room and RevPar increased by 4.3%. While November was below average for RevPar increase (+6.5), many areas saw double digit increases in revenue. Other than the fact that these statistics are encouraging for hoteliers, it shows there is an opportunity to achieve even more in 2016. How will your hotel be above average in 2016?

Eliminate F.E.A.R

Les Brown, an inspiring motivational speaker was quoted saying:
If you do what is EASY, your life will be HARD.... If you do what is HARD, your life will be EASY - Les Brown
Many times our ideas may be illogical, impractical, and unrealistic. If you truly believe you can do something, you probably can. If you believe you won't, you most assuredly won't. Denis Waitley says that:
Belief is the ignition switch that gets you off the launching pad.
If you take the word "F.E.A.R" you can get two totally different meanings out of it. Fear can be a limitation you set on yourself, your business, your life, however it can also be broken down into an acronym,"Face Everything And Rise." Ultimately the success of the hospitality industry does not mean your hotel, motel, and B&B will reap the same benefits. You must let go of fear of failure, fear of creative ideas, fear of change.

Let Desire Lead to Initiative

Your business will never crawl out of "stagnation" without desire and initiative. Those who have fear and a lack of motivation, rarely have initiative. Whether that fear is associated with not knowing how to do something, or not feeling confident, it can inhibit the growth of your business. If you truly want something done, learn how to do it or find someone that knows how to do it. Take the extra time in 2016 to pick up a book, hire someone with a speciality, and or prepare your staff to be the best staff possible everyday. If you desire to increase revenue, increase public perception, and increase moral of your staff, let your actions (initiative) do the talking.

Success Through Hunger

Success comes to those that earn it, those that work for it. Eric Thomas, a renown speaker and author is famously quoted saying:
When you want to succeed, as bad as you want to breath, then you'll be successful - Eric Thomas
If you fight for your job, your business, and your family everyday of the week, you will see success. I hope you are motivated and inspired to change your mindset, challenge your fears, and chase your desires for 2016!
